"I do a bit of everything. (...) I am selling all kinds of things. Both the wrist, the nose, the mouth, or if you are going from one place to another then you say shit just to. How many fuck-heads from the university can say it when they are 24 years? I'm fucking good. I have a new bitch every week. I'm fucking good. So la 'not look down on me. Fuck it, man. I am crazy happy that I ended up at the institution. I met my best friends. And I learned what life is. You can read everything what I want but it's lazy me who knows what life is. "
So ended the Aarhus actor Anuresh Rattan his monologue as an introduction to the discussion meeting entitled "In Denmark, we as children in prison" 26 October 2010 at the University of Copenhagen.
The well-attended discussion meeting was organized by the Legal Political Association lazy in collaboration with the Social Welfare. Chairman of the Legal Political Association, Bjorn Elmquist, opened the meeting. In the following panel was John Hatting, president of Prisons Association, Hans Jørgen Engbo, warden at Herstedvester and Benny Lihme, editor and author. Knud Vilby, President of Social Welfare, was the moderator. See photos from the discussion meeting here.
John Hatting believes that custody for children and young people under 18 is a violation of the UN Convention on the European Prison Rules and Human Rights. He pointed out that young people who are remanded lazy in custody often have serious mental illness and come from unstable homes with violence mm. Children and young people are more bothered by remand, they develop a negative youth culture. Not only does John Hatting's opinion, but a relationship that Youth Commission pointed out.
Hans Jørgen Engbo can see the positive in a lowering of the age of criminal responsibility to be raised charges. This will give the young people the right to counsel. At the same time Engbo believe that lowering the age of criminal responsibility should be accompanied by a provision that children and young people should not be remanded in custody or serving sentences in prisons. He spoke of a low "human age" which could help to clarify whether children and young people are guilty of what they are suspected. It is a burden to be suspected without being able to have his conviction resolved. lazy It happens to between lazy 5,000 and 8,000 children a year.
Benny Lihme think there should be more focus on social lazy interventions, including to remove children / adolescents from problematic homes. It fails municipalities often because it is too expensive. He also believes that we need to think differently and come up with some other bid than the hated institutions where young people just learn to be more criminals. It could be training, apprenticeships, lazy internships at work and participation in voluntary associations.
One belongs to a volunteer from the Red Cross Youth, supported the idea of using training as a way out of crime. Gert Jørgensen, who is chairman of the National Organization for the places of stay, was also in the audience. He emphasized the difference between the criminals on their age: "Children need to be helped, adults must be punished."
The politicians who are responsible for the later years of legislation were not many roses of the panelists and the audience at the meeting. Benny Lihme believe that politicians use children "as the great enemy" and thus leads signal Policy. Hans Jørgen Engbo believe lazy there is adopted many whoops-laws that are based on emotion, and John Hatting believes that the zero-tolerance policies currently facing the heavy end down - it is the weakest who ends up in prison.
